선교, 그 거룩한 사명

저는 이번 주 월요일부터 수요일까지 Fort. Lauderdale 남부플로리다연합감리교회에서 열리는 ‘한인연합감리교회 선교 컨퍼런스’에 다녀올 예정입니다.
“선교, 그 거룩한 사명”이라는 주제하에, 벌써 180여명이 등록을 마칠정도로 선교에 대한 열기가 다른 어느때보다 뜨겁습니다.  이번 대회는 각 개체교회에서 실시하고 있는 선교 및 선교 후원 사역을 위한 자료와 정보를 공유하며, 아울러 우리 연합감리교회 세계선교부와의 협력선교 방안을 모색함과 동시에, 개체교회의 선교사역을 치하하고 또 어떻게 하면 중복되지 않고 더 효율적으로 선교를 할 것인지를 고민하고 실행하는 모임입니다.

제가 몇년전에 참석했던 선교대회때에는 Fuller 신학교 신약학 교수인 김세윤 박사가 “바울의 선교신학에 대하여”란 강연을 했었는데, 바울이 어떻게 선교를 하였는지를 성경을 통해 조목조목 배우고 땅끝까지 이르러 예수님의 증인이 되라고 하신 세계 선교의 의미를 새롭게 깨달았던 계기가 되기도 했었습니다.

이번 선교대회에서 진행될 프로그램으로는 오전에는 교회선교에 대한 전체강의와, 저녁시간에는 방글라데시 장순호 선교사가 선교부흥회를 인도할 예정입니다. 그리고 오후시간은 주로 각 분과 별로 선교회 별 선교 전략을 재정립하고, 선교 현장에 나가 있는 여러 선교사님들과의 직접적인 만남을 통해서 각 교회에서 하고 있는 선교와 후원의 방향을 어떻게 할 것인지를 함께 듣고, 아울러 여러 가지 준비된 선교 Workshop들을 통해서는 개체 교회들이 어떻게 선교 사역을 감당해야 할 것인지도 진지하게 토론할 것입니다.
 
아직도 이 지구상에는 하나님의 복음을 접하지 못하고 또 받아들이지 않고 불쌍하게 죽어가는 영혼들이 너무도 많습니다. 어느 때는 우리가 하는 이 작은 선교가 얼마나 효과가 있을까 하고 나약한 생각이 들 때도 있지만 그러나 열심히 우리가 씨앗을 뿌리면 그것을 자라게 하고 열매 맺게 하시는 분은 우리 하나님이십니다. 일선에 나가서 우리가 직접 복음을 전파하지 못한다 할지라도 지금도 지구촌 구석구석에는 목숨을 걸고 하나님의 복음전파를 위해서 땀 흘리는 수많은 선교사님들이 있습니다. 물질로도 열심히 그들을 도와야 하고, 선교에 동참하는 길은 여러 가지가 있지만 우리가 좀더 관심을 가지고 해야 하는 일은 그분들을 위해서 날마다 기도하는 것입니다. 우리는 뒤에서 기도와 물질로 돕고, 복음에 대한 열정을 가진 선교사님들은 일선에서 열심히 땀 흘리며 뛸 때에 이 사역이 하나가 되어서 땅 끝까지 이르러 주님의 증인이 되라는 지상 명령을 잘 수행할 수 있으리라 저는 믿습니다.

우리교회가 선교, 그 거룩한 사명에 동참해서 이 시대에 아름답게 쓰임받는 교회가 되길 소망합니다.

“Attending The Mission KUMC Conference”

Next Monday thru Wednesday, I will be attending The 2012 Korean United Methodist Church Mission Conference which will be held at Fort. Lauderdale, Florida. The theme of the mission conference is “Mission, That Holy Commission.”  During this conference, we will encourage churches that will work diligently for world missions and discussed how to effectively do mission work.

There will be 180 people have registered and especially there will be world mission leaders present so they are able to give accurate assessment of the current mission work of the United Methodist Church. We will consider and search together on how the UMC and individual churches could partner on mission work.

Before several years ago, I attended Korean United Methodist Church Mission Conference, at that time I remembered that every morning, professor Sey-Yoon Kim, who is the New Testament Professor at Fuller Theological Seminary, gave a lecture on “Paul’s Mission Theology.” It was a time of learning through the Scripture on how Apostle Paul did his mission work and beneficial time being reminded of Jesus’ command to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth.

On Monday and Tuesday evening, Missionary Soon-Ho Chang, will be lead the evening service. In the evening, we will hear from many missionaries how churches could better support missionaries and their mission work and through many workshops, we will discuss how individual churches could join and involve in mission work.

In this world, there are still many people who have not heard the Gospel and who refused to believe the Gospel. Sometimes, we feel that what we do is so small, whether it will matter. But if we diligently sow God’s Word and the Gospel, God will make the seed grow and bear fruit one day. There are many missionaries even today who give their lives for the sake of the Gospel. Even though we may not be on the mission field with them, we need to support them financially and pray for them daily. As we support the missionaries and have deep interest and concern for them, this mission work becomes one in heart and mind. Let us be one in heart for the mission work and fulfill the Lord’s Great Commission to be witnesses of His wonderful Name! 

My hope and prayer is that our church will join the “Mission, The Holy Commission” to bring forth the generation of Harvest laborers to fulfill The Great Commission.
